“The Polar Express” is a popular children’s book/movie
that is a favorite at this time of year.
Here at Ashe Library, the Arctic Express will be passing by next week
with “train conductor” Steve Somers.
Conductor Steve will
present his Arctic Express Program at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. This magic train ride will take you on a
journey to celebrate winter holidays around the world. Find out about the world’s most popular
winter celebrations including holidays like Diwali (a Hindu festival), the
Chinese New Year, an African-themed Kwanzaa celebration and the Jewish
celebration of Hanukkah. Somers is an Amazing Teacher and children will
love his interactive program. Along with a look at winter festivals comes a demonstration
about the changing of seasons, particularly Winter Solstice. An important part of the Arctic Express
Program is helping children discover the importance of giving and sharing
during the holidays.
Come by
the library earlier in the afternoon to make a few DIY Christmas gifts. The Friends of the Library will be gift
wrapping in their book shop and Summit Strings will be entertaining with sounds
of the season beginning at 2:00 p.m.
