Chess Club and MARS (Molly’s Activities & Random Shenanigans)

Want to increase your memory and concentration or practice logical thinking skills? The library’s Chess Club meets at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays and is open to all-ages.  Chess boards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. The game of chess has many benefits, but most importantly it is a wonderful way to exercise your brain. While identifying chess positions for your strategic moves across the board, you are not only exercising both sides of your brain but also promoting brain growth and raising your IQ. A chess match requires quick thinking and problem-solving and also can spark creativity. Chess is great game to optimize memory and improve reading skills. This game can also stimulate deep concentration and calm, helping to center and relax your brain. It is a great way to relieve anxieties or recover from a stroke. Come out and learn to play, or increase your skill level at this table-top classic.

Youth services specialist, Molly Dawes, has developed a new program, Molly’s Activities and Random Shenanigans (MARS), in relation to this year’s summer reading theme: “A Universe of Stories.”  These pop-up events are a fun time to explore new things and be creative! So far this summer, Molly has introduced bubble painting and sand art. Rock painting is planned for the next random meet-up (sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday).  Follow the library on Facebook for details on MARS adventures!

Dates to remember in July:  The library will be closed on July 4 to celebrate Independence Day and again on July 6 for Christmas in July. Visit the library tent at the festival to learn more about the library in your community and meet your friendly librarians!
