The Bible and the Banjo

Johnnie Taylor has some interesting stories about growing up in Wilkes County during the 1940s. Back then times were real hard and Johnnie had to pick berries, dig roots, and pick herbs to make money. His dad died when he was 14 years old, and his mother worked very hard to raise the family. Johnnie grew up playing the banjo and became a traveling evangelist. His book The Bible and the Banjo is titled after two things he loves. Johnnie has always put the Bible first and the banjo has helped him deliver the Bible's message for years. This book is a collection of stories from his past, documents about his musical career, pictures of chord fingering for the banjo, and original songs.

Come by the library at 11:00 a.m. on June 13 to meet Johnnie. Autographed copies of The Bible and the Banjo will be available for purchase.
