At the library's entrance you will see two amazing trees that were donated and decorated by Ashe Library Friends. One tree in particular is made entirely out of books. Visitors can take a guess at how many books make up the tree to win gift cards to the Friends of the Library Book Store.
The Friends of the Library are also hosting a gift wrapping station. All items purchased in the Friends' Book Store can be wrapped by "Library-Friendly Elves" on Friday and Saturday, December 12 and 13. Also available in the Friends Book Store are gift baskets for just about anyone on your Christmas shopping list at very affordable prices! Money raised by Ashe Library Friends is used to fund library programs throughout the year.
The Library's Circulation Department is decked out in icicles and stars. And for those who may have accumulated some late fees, there is a chance to gain "fine forgiveness." Every can of food donated through December 13 will take a dollar off a patron's bill. The food collected will benefit A Safe Home for Everyone (A.S.H.E.)
The youth service librarians have tons of suggestions for holiday reads and there is an elf hiding in a new spot everyday. If you find the elf, there is a special mission to be performed and you will earn a chance for a very special prize drawing.
Adult service librarians have put together some amazing displays. As you walk in the front door, you will see a variety of good books surrounding an inviting "fireplace." In this month's display case, you will find a collection of exquisite Santa Claus dolls.
There is also a CUTE little tree, sort of like the kind Charlie Brown decorated. It is adorned with homemade ornaments that are made from recycled books!
Be sure to check out our recipe swap board, because we all know that eating is one of the best things about celebrating! Find a recipe you'd like to try and bring one you would like to share too.
And last but not least, stop by the Heritage Room upstairs and see Ms. Chessie (Ashe County's first librarian). She is quite lovely and we know if she were with us today, she'd be wearing her "Santa Hat" and helping us spread some good cheer! Merry Christmas to all!
