Tracking down a good book - Bagby to present Oct. 16

Author Libby Bagby is on the hunt for dog lovers of all ages to attend her presentation about her newest book, Deputy Dogs, at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 16 at the Ashe County Public Library.
Tails will wag as she relates the story of two Plott Hounds, Kodie and Sadie, who joined the ranks of the Guilford County sheriff’s department last year. Her juvenile nonfiction story, which she co-authored with Jan Carmichael, is written from Kodie’s perspective and traces the puppies’ journey to becoming deputy dogs.
After rescuing an injured Plott Hound a few years back, Bagby has devoted her retirement to writing children’s books about this state dog and spreading the word about her favorite canine breed to schools and libraries statewide.
In addition to Deputy Dogs, Bagby, a former school media specialist, is also the author of Lucky’s Plott, One Lucky Dog, and an educational manual for teachers filled with lesson plans about the state hound.
With her rescued companion, Lucky, in tow, Bagby enlivens her presentations with primary source photographs, memorabilia collected from Plott Hound enthusiasts across the state, and her natural storytelling splendor.
Families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend and are guaranteed to have a howling good time.
