October Art Display
Upstairs
During the month of October, the library is displaying “The 2014 Challenge Quilts” made by members of the Ashe County Piecemakers Quilt Guild”, twenty-five quilt pieces in all and very unique. On October 10, there was a reception with guild members greeting each other, as well as members of the community who came to the upstairs gallery to admire the quilt blocks. The challenge was to make a quilt with the sides no smaller than 20 inches and no larger than 30 inches. Participants were not to piece the named block, but to make a quilt using a play on the quilt block name. In September each year the “Guild” also holds an annual “Quilt Fair” in the old Phoenix Chair Company building in West Jefferson. The quilt blocks will be on display now through the first week in November, 2014.
