Julia May, Ashe Library's Art Guru |
During the month of October, the Library is featuring
pieces from the “Small Quilt Challenge” in the upstairs display gallery. Please join us from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013
for the official opening and enjoy the small quilts and
refreshments.
"Small Quilt Challenge"
Each year members of the Guild are invited to participate
in a “Challenge” project and each year the subject is different. This year the subject was “Things Found in the Attic”, a
title chosen to coincide with the book written by Karen S. Musgrave. Musgrave was the Guild’s featured speaker in
conjunction with this year’s Library and Arts Council’s “On the Same Page.” The
number of participants varies from year to year but it is always fun to see
individual interpretations of the chosen theme.
Entries are displayed at the Guild’s Annual Quilt Fair.
The Ashe County Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild promotes the
heritage of quilting, providing a source of information and inspiration to
encourage excellence in quilting and the related arts. The Guild also donates quilts to A Safe Home
for Everyone, Ashe County Senior Center, the Ashe County sheriff’s Department,
The Heart Association, Victims of home fires, and Ashe Outreach “Backpack”
Program.
The Quilt Guild meets on the 2nd Thursday each month at 1:30
p.m. at the Ashe Services for Aging Center off Ray Taylor Road in West
Jefferson. Additional information is
available by calling Irene at 336-982-3522.
