This year the Ashe County Piecemakers Quilt Guild is
featuring Karen Musgrave, author of Quilts in the Attic as the guest speaker
at their annual quilt fair. The Quilt Guild partners with On the Same
Page Literary Festival by bringing an author to contribute to the county’s
celebration of reading and writing. Karen’s book uncovers “the hidden stories
of the quilts we love,” tying in nicely with Ashe County’s Literary Festival
theme “secrets.” Her book has received rave reviews and is described
as inspiring and a great historical read. The sentimental value
acquired in a hand stitched quilt, or the fabric that was repurposed for a
patchwork piece can be thought of as ‘secret’ ingredients in a family
story. Karen will talk about this traditional craft along with the
significance and meanings of quilt patterns.
One highlight of On the Same Page Literary Festival is the
opportunity to have “lunch with an author.” Karen is scheduled to
eat at J & J Chop House at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21. Call
336.846.ARTS to make a lunch reservation with Karen, or other authors that will
be appearing at this year’s literary festival. Karen will discuss her
book at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, in Jefferson Station as part of
the Quilt Fair’s scheduled events.
For more information visit www.ashequilters.org
and click on Quilt Fair. Karen will also be a part of the literary
festival's author panel luncheon at noon on September 21, taking place in the
West Jefferson United Methodist Church Community Room. Reservations for the
luncheon are required and can be made through the Ashe County Arts Council.
