Christal
Blackburn, organizes books, magazines and newspapers on shelves,
stands and bookcases. She works as a shelver at Ashe Library
and is on the job early; every day to check-in materials left
overnight in the book-drop and spends her mornings putting all
returned items back in the right places. She often fills in at
the circulation desk when times are busy. “Christal is
very fast and accurate” remarked April Durrence, circulation
manager. With five previous years of employment at Ashe
Library, Christal was welcomed back last year, after taking time off
to be home when her youngest child was a baby. Married with two
children, ages 12 and 3 Christal spends her free-time homeschooling.
She also is busy schooling herself with online classes for a business
administration degree. “Christal is a valuable team member”
says Durrence, “and is knowledgeable in all areas of the library.”
“Interacting
with library patrons and co-workers is one of the best things about
this job,” says Christal. When asked about her reading
preferences she comments, “I enjoy reading Christian fiction and
would have to say my favorite author is Lori Wick.”
Christal also enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, walking, and
bird watching.
If
you ever need help finding something at the library, Christal can
point you in the right direction. She is the one shelving with
a smile!
